ESCAPE FROM GAOL.

~ : AN UNSUCCESSFUL CHASE. " , (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) Inveroargill, October 28. Another escape from Invercargill prison occurred this afternoon, when Albert Edward M'Queen and Henry . Gordon, who' had been working in the' cement block making sheds ' at-.the rear of- the gaol, broke away, /and made across the North Road: and golf links to Thompson Busli'. The bush was beaten, and the escapees were i sighted several times, but eluded thir pursuers, who gave up the chase when the night came on. M'Queen, who is an Invercargillite, knows-the country' thoroughly,'. and will probably be hard to catch. He was sentenced at the last Supreme Court sittings here to seven 'years' imprisonment for assault with intent. Gordon was sentenced, at Christchurch to. nine .months' imprisonment, of which period all but two _ months had been served. The night is a bitter one, with ' hail and rain showers (almost identical with the conditions on tho night of tho last escape), and as the escapees have only trousers and singlets on, they will probably suffer unless M'Quecn's local kuowleclge is turned to good account. Up to a late hour to-night nothing further had been heard of the prisoners.
