ENQINEERING DISPUTE.

Dunedin, October 27. , Mr. Triggs, Conciliation' Commissioner, sat in Dunedin this morning to hear tho •industrial dispute between the engineering employers of Dunedin and the- Port Chalmers and Dunedin. branch of the Amalgamated Society' of. Engineers. It was explained that the reason for citing the dispute was because Mr. Justice Sim had mentioned, at Auckland that he did not intend to make. a Dominion award until after hearing evidence in Christchurch. :It appeared as though Dunedin was to be ignored altogether. They thought they were entitled to. bo heard baforo a Dominion award was made. There was really no dispute, employers and employees having worked very amicably together. The Commissioner gave it as hie opinion that if they came to an agreement the Court could not upset it. Mr. W. Butt mentioned that both parties desired a Dominion award.

The men arc seeking, amongst other tilings, Is. Cd. per hour for competent tradesmen, fivo years' apprenticeship, and one year as improver at 9s. per day. After some discussion it was resolved to hold over the matter until November 7, when the society will havo filed a dispute; The whole question will then be considered. ,
