'» , • JBBOOO DAMAGE. ■ (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) Napier, October 26. The Hawke's Bay Soap and Tannery Company's, worts at Awatoto wero totally destroyed by lire this morning.. The flames had a good hold when discovered, and, in the absence of fire-fighting appliances, the structure was soon reduced to ashes. Insurances on the soap works: In the Phoenix, ,£1350; Norwich Union, .£1000; Eoyal, .£1000; contents, in various .offices. The loss over and aboye insurance is estimated at ,£3OOO to ,£4000! FIRES AT KILBIRNIE. y : At G. 6 a.m. yesterday the Fire Brigade received a call to Seatoun Road, Kilbirnie, to a seven-roomed dwelling, owned by John Smith, and occupied by Matthew Summers. A shed at the side of the house was destroyed, but no damage resulted to the dwelling, which is insured in the Phoenix office. The contents were not insured. Another call to Kilbirnie was received by tho brigade at 2G minutes past 9 o'clock. The fire was at a six-roomed dwelling, owned and. occupied by Martin Beck. It is not known what caused the fire, but it; originated. in a bedroom, which, with its contents, was badly damaged. When the brigade arrived tho flames had a good hold, but were prevented from spreading, though tho test of the building was damaged somewhat by heat and smoke. Tho contents are insured in the Royal office for <£400, while the building is insured in tho London and Lancashire Company, amount not stated.
