CITY ABATTOIR.

A-. MONTH'S' OPERATIONS^

Following are particulars of ' the ' work conducted at the city abattoirs during the month of August last:— Number of, stock slaughtered ■ for butchers in the city: Cows, 26; bullocks and heifers, 223; sheep, 2106; lambs, 42; calves, 5- ..:'. " Of the above, 1 cow,- 4 bullocks, and 19 sheep were condemned. ' The decrease in the number of stock slaughtered a's compared with the previous months, is as follows: Cows, 46; bullocks and heifers; 53; jsh'eep,'369;'lambs;' 87; calves, 5. The manager considers that the-decrease is-, attributable to the high price that ruled for live stock during the month.: - Fees collected for stock slaughtered at the abattoirs, ,£6O 19s. 4d. This is a decrease of <£17 15s. .from the total of the previous month. Fees received frorh meat .export slaughter-houses, and in respect of meat: slaughtered in the city' totalled JS2I7 9s. Id., an' increase' of £11 12s. on the amount collected in the previous month. The amount received at the abattoirs for the sale of offal, and runners was .£54 17s. 10d., a decrease of .£l4 ss. 7d. as compared with the previous month.
