ANGLICAN GENERAL MISSION.
SERVICES AT UPPER HTJTT,
Services in. connection with the Anglican General Mission were commenced in Upper Hutt parochial district on Saturday .last. ,At 7.30 p.m. a service to .welcome the mission preacher, the Rev. M. W. Kinlbch, M.A., was held in St. John's ChurCh, Trentham. Owing to very heavy rain, there was ..only a small attendance. The Bishop of Wellington was present, and delivered a short- address, dwelling on the importance of ; the work commencing that day, and- asking for the sympathy and prayers vof the congregation. Special prayers were then offered by the Rev. M. W. Kinloch for the pre-; senoe, guidance, and power of the Holy, Spirit. , Sunday- was a fine day, and the special services were.'largely attended, and'much interest-was manifested. Tlio morning service was at Trentham, when the Missioiiei preached from Acts i, 8, showing in earnest language that thj power of tho. Holy Ghost ( given to the Apostles nnd the one hundred and twenty'in; tho upper room at Jerusalem was available for every member of the Church in the twentieth century, and if we only had the power of, the Holy Spirit' in our hearts "what',a difference it would make in Our lives. There was a large .number of communicants. In the -afternoon, a short service was held at Silverstream, when the Missioiieipreached from St. Matthew vi, 31In the evening St! Hilda's Church, Upper Hutt;. was quite full, many who are not regular worshippers being present. - The special hymns, were lieartjly. sung' by' the large congregation, the opening hymn being "Jesus of Nazareth Passoth' By." -■ The ; other hymns -were, "TelK Me the Old, Old Story," "The Light .of the World is Jeipis," and "Lord, I Hear of Showers of, Blessing." The' Missioner pr/eachedan earnest sermon from - St. John iii, 10, showing in simple language God's wonderful love for the world, as, manifested in the life and teaching and death of Jesus Christ, who was God present in ■human form, showing'to man' what God really is, and how, God ; notwithstanding man's sin, so loved -him that He was willing to die for'him. The congregation listened .most earnestly to this simple, and impressive statement of the Gospol. Holy Communion will be celebrated each morning at 9 o'clock at St. Hilda's Church, Upper Hutt; a children's•'service .''will.'be held to-day (Wednesday), at 3 p.m.; find a' mission service at 8 p.m. Mr. Kinloch will' hold missions- -at Khandallah' (September 10 to 14), Wadestown and Northland (September 17 to 21), and Porirua (September 24 to 2S).
