i . . i OEDINAHY MEETING. The Lower-Hutt-Borough Council met last night. Present: Tho Mayor (Mr. E. P. Bunny), Councillors H. Baldwin, J. L. Barlow, E. Hayes, G. F. Pcarce, J. T. Hawthorne, F. de J.' Clere, and A. Macak-ill. . . -A resolution, confirming the steps taken to raise \ a consolidating I6ah of .£20,300 was passed at a special meeting. Messrs. Bell, Gully, Bell and Myers wrote that on securities, etc., being in order to their satisfaction, tho money would bo available. The Hutt District Cricket Club wrote, asking for permission to get the wickets (pitches) on the Recreation Ground • ready for the coming season,- and that now tho football season is over the fences and the . goal-posts should be removed, 60 that footballers , should not have cause foi running over tie wickets (pitches) in course of preparation. Both theso requests were agreed to. .the tame club also asked the council to provide a horse-roller for the Eecreatiou Ground, the ground having become very much cut up as the. result<of foot--ball . matches. This request' was declined. , .... ■' 'i'he council, resolved to accept an otfet by Mr. J! IC. Powell of a twelve--months' lease of a road-metal quarry. at a rental 'of 30s. a week, with'option ol | purchase. , , Reporting on tlie eastern drainage section (Mr. Young's contract), the engineer (Mr. Bix-Trott) stated that tho work consisted of' the laying of seventy chains ul 151h., forty-three of-12in., sixty-eight ot 9in., and twenty-two of 6m.. pipes, with about forty chains of house-connec-tion.", together with the necessary manholes, inspection pits, etc. "Up to date, Mi. Young has completed the laying of .the lMn. and 12in. pipes, and 1987 of Sin. Though all the manholes and inspection pits in connection 'with the pipes laid are' constructed, they' are not quite completed. The time for the completion of the contract expired on July 3. ' progress of the work from the racecourse to beyond Bellevue Itoad, owing to the presence of water; running sand,'and buried logs,, has unavoidably been very slow, and on this portion ' of the work the contractor lias met' with considerable financial, loss. Lite progress from King's Road northward is • good, there being no water or other difficulties to contend with."
