Zealand Hockey ' "Association wrote stating; that tho now shield contest rules would" come, into operation 'after this season was" over.—Received. •• The same 'body 'also inquired whether, the Wellington Association was prepared' to billet' aii' Australian' team ' whilst in Wellington,--if[arrangements could bo made ior a visit of an' Australian' team during 1911; After' a lpngthy discussion the meeting decided to communicate with' the Ncfr Zealand Council, guaranteeing, to bjllel fifteen men for three days, to contribute towards the expenses." '• ,' ' Important-changes ito the rules govern-, ing shield ' contests were reported as follow:—Rule 12—All pliallengcs for shield mutches are to be accompanied by a sum of £2 25., half the'amount to' belong to the association challenged. Rule 11.— Ten per cent, of profits (if any) accruing from shield matches .shall be paid to N.Z.H.A., and. hajurice-shcet submitted of each match. Kule 8— Two extra spells' of fifteen minutes each may bo played till a score is registered. ln.'Uho event of no score being registered at conclusion of tho extra spells, the game . shall be declared a draw, ,thn present holders-to retain the'shield. " ',-,■' .-; A. balance-sheet of the Hawke's Bay match was before,the meeting, which showed the gross takings to be .£ls 7s. Of, this amount nearly £6 was spent in expenses, and acting upon an agreement with the ladies' association half the balance goes to. tho funds of the latter body. In view of the expenses incurred thb ladies' association will bo asked to contribute half sharo in jpertain other expenditure, amounting to alx>ut £i. The meeting was of the opinion that the Wellington Hockey Association could not continue to allow the ladies' association any portion of the gate takings when ladies' matches were played as "curtain raisers." ' Mention was" made that probably a ladies' team from • Auckland would play a match as a'"curtain raiser" to the shield- event on September 10. .: As only one local-referee would be available for the Auckland match, tho nanus of Mr. Hatch;. Christchurch,' anil Mr. H. V. Walton, Wellington* were forwarded to Auckland, from which a selection might bo made. ■■'It was reported that Mr. T. Shields has offered .a gold medal for the 'best player in shield matches. The offer was accepted with thanks. Tho qnestion of selecting the best player will be dealt with by the chairman and Mr.-Walton. It was decided to .vote a sum towards entertaining the Auckland team. The train will arrive in Wellington on Thursday, September 8, and leave for Auckland on the following Monday. Mr. Walton and Mr. Organ wero of opinion that more assistanco should be given by-the Management Committee and hockey clubs generally in meeting and entertaining visiting. teams. ; .. : :-. NELSON TOURNAMENT. (By Telceraph.—Press -Association.* Nelson,' August 29. All teams competing in-tho Hockey Association, tournament, except those from the' West Coast, ore expected to arrive to-morrow, when they will bo tondored a civic reception. ■ The tournament commences on Wednesday.
