THE LEPERS AT QUAIL ISLAND.
ANOTHER ONE INTERNED. (By Tolegraph.-Press. Association.) ■ . Christchureh, August 26. The utmost reticence is being observed by the officials , of the Health Department regarding the case of a man who was placed in the leper station, at Quail Island, Lyttelton, on i Wednesday. His arrival was not alto- ■ gether a surprise as it was rumoured for some time that a -third patient would be placed on the island. The patient is a white man, apparently between thirty and forty years of ago, and is said to show plain signs of Bome diseasi! in his face. He has taken up his residence, in one of threo cottages at the leper station which was vacated last year by a young Maori who was discharged as cured. It is understood that tho new patient originally came from Queensland, and that 'there is little doubt that he is suffering from leprosy. It is stated. that the other two patients are in such, a state that . they now require the assistance of a third man. The white man, who has . been on Quail. Island for.three or four years, is said to be almost blind. Tho Maori patient, too, is said to be very badly affected in his hands.
