NO-LICENSE LEAGUE.
ADDRESS BY THE REV. J..DAWSON. A .well-attended meeting of the Wellington City and Suburbs No-Liccnso League was held, last evening. Tho Rev. W. J. Comrie presided. An address was given by tho Kev. J.. Dawson (General Secretary JJeiv !i3aland Alliance) on "Liquor . Legislation." ' Mr. Dawson divided his subjects into two headings: (1) Legislative benefits derived in recent years.. Under this heading he dealt. with tho statutory abolition of licenses in' the King Country, liquor in military camps, total exclusion of liquor from all future industrial exhibitions to be held in tho Dominion, no discretionary powers'being loft to any commissioner; (2) Legislation desiiod by their organisation: The reverend gentleman dealt in a .lucid manner 'with, tho question of the employment.of barmaids in hotels, Dominion option, bottle licenses, and temperance teaching in schools, and concluded with an emphatic expression of the desire of the alliance for the democratic principle of the bare majority at all licensing noils. After reviewing in an effective and interesting manner the position in various No-License districts, Mr. Dawson was awarded a hearty voto of thanks for his address.
The chairman announced that a series of monthly 'meetings would bo hold, at the next of which the principal business will be a debate on "Dominion versus Local Option as a Weapon for Fighting the Liquor- Traffic."
