SUGAR COMPANY DENOUNCED.
"A STATE OF SERFDOM." By Teleirraph-Presa AssoclatioK-Oopyricl". (Bee. August 25, 10.45 p.m.) Melbourne, August 25. In the House of Representatives, Mr. Higgs (Queensland) bas moved for the appointment of a Royal Commission to inquiro into tho condition of the -sugar industry, to consist of one representative each of the general public, tho wageearners, the millers, and the refiners. The mover declared that there was great dissatisfaction in tho industry, and the primary producers were in a state of serfdom. Tho directors of the sugar refining companies could raise or reduce the price of sugar at their will, and there was no appeal from their fiat. Nobody could, buy sugar except from the .Refining Company, and two other companies, which were only allowed to exist.so long as they adopted the same rates.
Mr.Higgs compared the Helming Company, to highwaymen. He said the inen employed in the industry were badly paid and irregularly rationed. .
