A NEW RULE. A new feature of Court procedure was exemplified yesterday, during the hearing of the Leader picture case. One of the accused—Francis Edwin Tier—had given evidence in his own defence, when Mr. H. H. Ostler, who was prosecuting for the Crown, intimated that he desired to cross-examine the accused under the new rule. Mr. Justice Chapman: Are the nonrules gazetted yet? Mr. Ostler: Yes. They were gazetted on August 18. His Honour: Very well. Counsel proceeded to take full advantage of the new facility for investigation. '
