ENTERTAINMENTS.

THE NATIONAL PICTURES. Tho National Pictures, in conjunction with the chrouo-megaphone, gave entertainment to a fairly largo audience at tho Opera Hoiiso last evening. Though many of tho world's great vocal artists and comedians cannot visit this part of tho world, it is pretty safe to assume that the chrnno-mogaphcne will be used to give the public an excellent second-hand idea of their appearance an'd vocal ability. This is certainly the case with tho Harry Lauder records, which aro so realistically human that the audience is compelled to laugh. Particularly is this the case in "Stop'-Your Ticklin', Jock," and "The Saftost of the Family," two excellent samples of the humourist's compositions. The pictures shown aro in the host of taste. One very fine- film gives a capital idea of Wangamii and the river. ' One of the river boats is depicted fighting her way up through the swirling rapids of the upper reaches, assisted by the line which .is picked up from tho bed of tho river with a grappling iron and attached to a winch on the forcdeek.' Without this aid it would be impossible for the steamers to negotiate tho rapids successfully. Another very beautiful coloured picture illustrates a coconut plantation near Singapore and the work attached to tho gathering of tho nuts. Tho National Pictures will bo shown again this evening.
