ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
SERIOUS EVENT AT NORTH . •' -- ; ' BRTJNNER. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) Creymouth, August 19. The first serious accident at the North Brunnor Colliery ended fatally :' this morning, Thomas Compton, a recent arrival from Portsmouth, dying from the effects of being dragged by a runaway truck down tho incline tramway, through tlio rope lino breaking". ENTANGLED WITH STEEL HAWSER/ Taihape, Aagnst 19. A shocking accident occurred yesterday at Irvine's mill, , Turangarere, whereby Selby Burson had one hand torn olf at the wrist., While working with a log-hauler on the side of tho 'hill, his hat blew off. He went to pick it up, and somehow got entangled with the steel hawser which pulled his hand right off. The man has been taken to the Wangaiiui Hospital. Mrs. Corrick, of Caroline Street, met with a painful accident on Thursday afternoon. She was in the act of preparing afternoon tea, when the sleeve .of her blouse came in. contact with a gas jet, and before it could be torn off part of her arm was rather badly burnt. Miss Corrick, who went to her mother's rescue, was burnt a little about the hands.
