FOOTBALL. . THE FINAL RUCBY MATCHES. - This afternoon will see the end of the Senior Cup Rugby fixtures for 1910, and in the meeting of Athletic and St. James, and Oriental and Poneko at Athletic Park, two fine games should bo witnessed. For some years there has boeu the keenest rivalry between Ponoke and Oriental, and but for the former's unexpected defeat at the hands of Athletic last Saturday those two teams would bo fighting out the thatitpi'onship final this afternoon. As i 1; is, Oriental have practically annexed tho top position; nevertheless the rivalry will be just as keen, and with -two clever, well-trained teams, followers of the game should bo treated to football of above average merit. The AthloticSt. James matoh, too, will doubtless attract a fair sliare\ of patronage, especially after the former s good showing against Poneko last week. They will be without the services of "Ranji" Wilson, who has notified that he does not intend to play until tho court proceedings instituted have been settled. Those who reach the ground early should be treated to somo good football in the schools representative match between Wellington and Wairarapa. Tho union has decided to devote the wholb of the proceeds to charitable objects. One-half will be handed over for tho Children's Hospital scheme and .tho remainder will be devoted to the fund.fcrt' injured players. v .- . CHANGES IN REPRESENTATIVE TEATffi. ■'-. T. Walsh (Poneke)- has been chosen by the Wellington Rugby Union selecto fill the vacancy, in the representative team for Auckland, caused by James Ryan's inability to make the trip. . Arthur Wilson (Athletic) has notified the union that on .account of the alleged assault case he will not accompany the team on. tho northern tour, or take part in any matches until the decision of the Court has been giveu. The selectors have chosen Bruce (St. James) to fill the vacancy. PUBLIC SCHOOLS ASSOCIATION. ■ A pleasant and for. the most part a youthful party sat down to dinner at Godber's, in Cuba Street, last night, when thu Wellington Public Schools Rugby Football Association entertained the Wairarapa. Public Schools football team, which is to play the local team at the Athletic Park this afternoon. Mr. C. Bary presided, and Messrs. A. W. Hogg, M.P., and -R. Lee (chairman of the Education Board)-wero present, and both ■ addressed the boys. The chairmafi congratulated the Terrace School on winning the . senior championship with an unbroken ; record, and the Maranui School on win-_ ning the junior championship, also with, an unbroken record. Ho thought the association, as a nursery for "All Blacks," should receive some substantial help from the New Zealand Rugby Union. He thanked the Wellington Rugby Union and the headmasters of the schools for assistance given. Mr. C. S. Haselden responded to 'the toast , of "The Visitors," proposed by the chairman. •

LADIES' ASSOCIATION. . A meeting of the Management Committee of tho New Zealand Ladies' Hockey Association was held on Thursday evening. Entries, for the tonrna* ment were approved as follow :—Auck> land, Taranaki, Hawkc's Bay, Wairarapa, Wanganui, Wellington A and B, Nelson, Buller, West Coast, Canterbury, South Canterbury,- and Otago. Asi there wore no entries for the junior grade, the Wellington junior meeting was accepted as a senior B entry. Two handsome trophies have been donated by Mrs. Rhodes, of.Wadestown, to be competed for at the tournament, and it was decided that these be awarded to the first and second best all-round players, the decision to be made by threo persons appointed by the Nelson Association. WAIRARAPA LADIES' TEAM. * Following is the team to represent the Ladies' Hockey Association in the Nelson tournament:—Goal, Miss I. Muir (Greytown); full-backs, Misses R. Humphries (Greytown), S. Chapman (Carterton); halves. Misses N. O'Leary (Masterton), C. Terry , (Greytown), M. M'Calmont (Masterton); wings, Z. Humphries (Greytown), Elsie Eeid (Carterion) ;■ forwards,' Misses P. The Manawatu Ladies' Golf Club held their monthly competitions on tlio Hokowhitu links on Thursday afternoon. In the senior division for Mrs. Cohen's trophy, Miss Sylvia. Abraham handed in the best card—ll2—34—7B; Miss AVylds second, 111—23—88; Miss Sybil Abraham and Mrs. F. Seifort tying for third place, 132—40—92. The junior competition for Miss Robinson's •trophy was won by Miss Coombs, 104— 19—85; Mrs. C. Adams second, 93—1— 92. The last-named will now go into tho sonior division. Tho following members of the Manawatu Club will take part in tho Christchurch tournament next week: —Misses Wray, Sylvia and Sybil' Abraham, and Mesdamcs H. C. Mollsop and J. P. Simes. ' •
