,": TROUBLE"-'IN TARANAKI.. (By Telegraph'.—Press, Association.) New Plymouth, August 10. Captain C.'T. Mills,.of the Taranaki Guards, notified his .company last night of his intention to resign his command in consequence of ' the ■ recent promotion of- Captain-Adjutant ■ Bellriuger . to the rank "of major, ho being many years junior' to Captain Mills.. The latter' has had command of the Guards since 1904. and was for six years previously a member continuously, besides which he served eight years broken service, commencing as far back as, 1880.. \" ' ■' '. Captain Bellringer joined the Taranaki Rifles abou tfour years ago, rapidly, rose to lieutenant, then captain, and afterwards was promoted to the staff as ndjutant. v He passed his' examination asmajor eighteen months ago, and.is now gazetted to that rank.-... .A special meeting of the Guards will bo-held, and'-it is quite possible that the corps will disband as a protest, Captain Mills being .very popular with his, men.', -.'
