His Excellency the Governor, Lord Islington, paid an.official visit, to Dunedin to-day. On the arrival of the tram, his .Excellency was welcomed by the Mayor and councillors, and was then driven to the Town Hall, via High Street and Princes Street. ' A largo number of spec-, tators lined the route traversed, and heartily cheered the Governor on his arrival; At the Town Hall Lord Islington was officially welcomed by the. Mayor, .and an address of welcome was presented to him. .■: In the course of his reply, Lord Islington said that he had visited many por : tions of the Empire, and, while this Do-., minion presented itself to him as one of the most highly. favoured by nature, it was also most interestins.to him, as an observer of political and industrial deivelopmentsA.He forfnd on'.'all.;' bands a vigorous .and energetic population, who were successfully realising .by tbeiv own Efforts' those high ideals that -so: keenly, actuated their ancestors. Lord. Islington also paid'a tribute to the work done by 'the "University of. Otago. ■ • ■• , _ The Governor's party, and the Hon. J. A. Millar and Mayor.and councillors then adjourned to the Mayor's room, where the Governor's health.rwas drunk. In responding to the toast, Lord Islington stated tlfat Lady Islington would arrive in New Zealand in about .ten-days,, and he would convev to her the message from' the citizens of 'Dunedin'.
