(Rec. August 5, 7.5 p.m.) London, August 5. Tho Roman Catholic Archbishop of Westminster (Dr. Bourne) has written to Mr.- Asquith thanking him for tho courage, determination, and tact ho had shown in dealing with the Accession Declaration Bill. .
GIRLS IN A PANIC.
Sydney, August 5. A fire in a Kent Street warehouse, where fifty girls are employed, caused a panic among the employees. One girl jumped ■ from a fire-escape two stories above the ground; and broke both her legs. The others were unhurt. The fire did little-damage.

London, August 4,
Mr, Horace Avory, the well-known King's Counsel, and Mr. Thomas H. Berridge, ex-M.P,, have been created High Court Judges.
A NOVEL MEMORIAL,
London, August 5,
The Lancashire County Council iß,investing £10,000 in shares in the British Cotton-Growing Association, as a memorial to King Edward. The CottonGrowing Association was formed in Lancashire to develop new fields of supply, within the Empire.
AEROPLANES DESTROYED.
London, August 5.
Two aeroplanes on board a train for conveyance to Lanark, where an aviation meeting will shortly bo held, caught fire and were destroyed.
BANK MANAGER'S ESTATE,
London, August 4. The estate of Mr. Hugh' Collin Smith, a former manager of the Bank; of England, has been sworn at £360,311.
EMIGRANTS' FARM COLONIES.
London, August 4.
Tho Betbnel Green Distress Committee lias approved of the scheme of farm colonies for intending emigrants.
SIR GEORGE REID.
London, August 4. , The High Commissioner for Australia, Sir George Reid, is spending a holiday in Scotland. He will then go to Brussels to take part in tho .Technical Education Conference and subsequently to Paris to attend the conference on tho problem of unemployment.
BOMB OUTRAGE,
Paris, August 5. The explosion of a poworful bomb wrecked the house of a well-known Anarchist and Apache detective at Levallois. Tho detective was absent holi-day-making, but a caretaker in charge of the house was severely injured, and several passers-by were stunned.
PERTH TRAM STRIKE.
Perth, August 5. The Full Court has dismissed an application for a mandamus to compel the Perth tramway Company to continue its service, tho Court deciding that the existing trouble was a strike.
THE PATERSON INCIDENT.
• Sydnsy, August 4. Mr. Paterson, the minfers 1 representative, who has resigned from the Newcastle Collieries Wages Board, after vain attempts to. eject him, said now that he could resign without loss of self-respect, he was anxious not to do anything to interfere with the smooth working of tho board.
