AUCTIONEERS' CONFERENCE.

TO SIT TO-DAT. A conference representative of the auctioneers of New Zealand will sit in tho Chamber of Commereo to-day. The chief matter for discussion .will'be the Auctioneers Act, and the amendments to that measure, which arc to be proposed. Tho. most important. clause to be considered is that which enacts that the license must be taken out in the name of tho auctioneer, not of the firm by whom he is employed. This, it is stated, has led to abuses in the past which it is hoped'will bo checked in the future by an alteration to the Act. For instance, a firm may take out a license this week in an employee's name, and next week that employee may leave and commence in business on his own account with the license, the fee of which has been paid by his late employers. This the . auctioneering firms consider to be unfair and unjust, and they will move to amend the clause in the direction of allowing, a firm to take out a license in its own name. A deputation from the conference will wait upon the Minister for Internal Affairs (the Hon« D. Buddo) at 5.30 this evening.
