Ho will receive a deputation from racing and trotting clubs tomorrow in reference to -the totalisatar. In an interview, he said the progress * of the session had been most satisfactory. He expected tho financial debate would conclude before the end ol this week, and then the way would 'TiiL clear, for other important business. ' ~•'■• He said it was too soon yet to forecast the duration of the session, but the House expected to sit till at least the end. of, October. .■ Regarding advances to local bodies, lie stated that since the new scheme came into operation in February last (barely six mouths), between £850,000 and £1,000,000 had been granted in. loans. There is, he said, ample monej for all requirements, provided the security offered .is satisfactory.' Under the old system, the tolal amount avail' able for all local bodies in the country did not exceed about £180,000' a year. Sir Joseph Ward will lay the founda- : tion atone of the new' post office tomorrow, and will return to Wellington by to-morrow evening's express.
