CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.
PENNY-IN-THE-SLOT TELEPHONE. Yesterday afternoon a meeting of the council of the Chamber of Commerce was held, Mr. Tewsley presiding. Four new members /were elected, namely, Messrs. A. T. Clarke, R: W. Armit, R. D. Grange, and H. D. Hueston. It was decided that a letter r bos should beerected outside the barrier at tho Thorndon Railway Station for tie convenience of persons wishing to post letters on the train." At the present time anyone wishing to do so has to pay 2d. for admission to the platform. Letters can be posted up till- fivo minutes of. the train's starting'during'the following-hours:—From 11 a.m. until 12.10 p.m., and from 3.45 p.m. until 4.10 p.m. It was also decided to ask ■the Government to erect a penriy-in-the-slot telephone bureau at ■the Thorndon Station, and one at the La-mbton Station. . These- telephones .have already been.erected on the Queen's Wharf and the King's Wharf. .
