PETONE BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The Petono Borough Council met last evening. Present: His Worship the -Mayor (Mr. J. W. -M'Ewan), and Councillors ■ Truem'an, Jones, List, Young, Piper, Soutbgate, and Harding. '--- The Taita Cemetery Trustees notified .that at their meeting,' held on' July 13, ,it;was resolved that tho additional clause in * tlie draft, agreement re oenietery control be amended as follows:
"That, .this agreement, shall bo .maintained by'the several parties thereto for-five years from date hereof, after which (any party to the agreement upon -establishing-a cemetery for. ..its, owa convenience! uiay ' L ceaso to .be. ai; contributing body wider the agreenient' by giving twelve months' previous notice in writing to the other parties thereto, any- financial obligations incurred,by the retiring party during of the agreement being first ascertained .and discharged"). -■ - . •-.. The previous amending clause, which was- approved by tho Petone., Council but rejected by the Borough Council of Lower Hutt, is included, in parentheses. The amendment was agreed to.
The Minister for Railways, writing with reference to representations oh behalf of the council as to the blocking of Kelly's Lano by railway wagons, stated that levels recently taken showed that the siding had not- sunk as supposed, by the Gear Company. Thero was. no adverse grade between Kelly'a Laaie and the main road, and tho crossover at the discharging race was on a grade of.l in 2SO. In the .circumstances no alteration could be made at the siding-save at. tho expense.of the Gear, Company;— Referred to tho Goal Company. ' -
