(From Our Special Correspbndont.l Palmerston North, July 22. Tho annual meeting of tho Palmerston Bowling Club was held last night, Mr. P. J. Tasker (president) in the chair. The balance-sheet showed a small debit balance of £3~95. 10d., but against this there were substantial assets. ■ The Green Committee's rej>ort stated that > the. green was in capital order. Tasker, Clausen, Mowlem, and Griggs. .. . ■ An enjoyable concert was. given last night in the. men's ward at the Hospital by-the, Palmerston Jjiedertafel, which was naturally appreciated by tlie patients and staff: . Mr. F. "W. Mason conducted.. ;■ • The Palmerston Brass Band has promised to: assist at the juvenile fancy dress ball,■which is being promoted by Mrs. W: , . T. Wood in aid of the funds of tho proposed Old Men's Homo for Palmerston. and district. The ordinary meeting of Loyal Mana■watu Lodge, 1.0.0. F., M.U., was held last night,-when there was A good attendance of members, Bro. C. J. Setter, N.G., presiding. One new member was initiated.' As a' mark of appreciation of his services in the. interests of tho lod"e, P.C.R. Bro. C. H. Gardner was presented with a past officer's framed emblem. Bro. W. ,E. Mathieson was also paid- a similar compliment, being presented with a member's framed emblem.' ■ • ■ ' . 'V party of about twenty members of the Palmerston Savage.Club, under'tho lead'of Toa J.' A. Nash, will visit the Wellington Savages on Saturday, August 6, and will provide the programme for the evening's entertainment. 4.H effort is being made hero to organise a choir for the production of the oratorio "Tho Messiah." It may bo mentioned that Palmerston once bad an excellent Choral Society, which produced "St. Paul" and other works, but it was allowed to go into recess last year. It is six or seven years since "The Messiah" was produced hero. ■ The Palmorston Bowling Club lias decided to set apart'a rink in tho coming season on which ladies, will be atlfl ■to play. • '-, Tho house which was destroyed by fire at Stoney Creok on Wednesday morning last belonged to Mr. R. Lloyd, and was insured for £150, but was valued at £300. The furniture belonging to tho occupant, Mr. Martin Johausen, was uninsured. '■
