6 FOOTBALL. NOTICE TO SECRETARIES. On account of extreme pressure on space during tho session, wo aro reluctantly compelled to discontinue the. publication of names of players taking part in tho various matches. The weekly lists of fixturos, grounds, and referees will, however, appear as before. WELLINGTON RUGBY UNION. * Tho Management Committee of the Wellington Rugby Union met on Wednesday evening, those present being Mr. S. Brown (chairman), Messrs. Perry, Burns,- Sweeney, O'Sullivau, Hales, and Talbot (secretary). Mr. W. Wallace wrote tendering his resignation from the Selection Committee owing to his going into business. It was resolved that the matter bo held over until next meeting. "With reference to Mr.- Laurenson's proposal to sell a block' of five acres adjoiuing the city boundary at Kilbirine, the committee decided that it- could not be entertained at present. A letter was received from the secretary of the Wairarapa llugby Union, stating that his committee could not accept the invitation of tho Wellington Rugby Union to' play a second fifteen team. Wellington College Football Club was granted' permission to play its annual fixtures with ' Wanganui College and Christ's College on Monday, August 20. Wednesday, August 31, and Friday, September 2. The Canterbury R.U. wrote intimating that their team would arrive in Wellington from tho Wairarapa on Friday morn* ing, September 16, and leave by boat on Saturday. A communication was.received from the secretary of the Auckland Rugby Union stating that arrangements had been made for the Wellington team to bo quartern! at the Royal Hotel on their visit to Auckland on August 20. N.Z. RUGBY UNION. The Management Committee of . the New Zealand Rugby Union met on Wednesday evening. Present: Messrs. G. Dixon (chairman), R. M. Isaacs, F. u. Warburton, M. J. Crombie, N. Galforaith, and H. Kelly. Tho secretary to the Bush Districts Union, forwarded an application from the Pongaroa Club that it be permitted to make a grant towards tho support, while disabled, of an injured player. Tho money, it was stated, had been subscribed bv friends. It was agreed to inform the Bush-Union that under the rules as to professionalism no union could give permission to make a payment in the way suggested. It was agreed to notify the Auckland Union that, in order to give the members of the American team an opportunity of visiting Itotorua, the union considered it advisable that the : team should proceed from Wanganui to Eotorua and play Auckland on Wednesday, August 3, instead of on Saturday, July 30, as previously arranged, but that if. the new arrangement were not acceptable to Auckland the original arrangement would be adhered to. It was remarked that tho American players were keenly desirous of visiting Kotorua, and that the trip, if carried out in conjunction with the arrangement now proposed, would cost -£100 less than under the old arrangement. After some discussion, it was agreed that the. matter of arranging a date for the North v. South match be held over until next week. ASSOCIATION. MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE. A meeting of the Management Committee of tho -Wellington Football Association was held in the Y.M.C.A. on Wednesday evening, Mr. H. N. Holmes' presiding at the commencement and afterwards Mr. B. L. Salmond. w The captain of Swifts' s;-oond-division' team appeared in reference to the case o( a Swifts player having been ordered off for striking an-opponent. It was decidcfl.to caution the Swifts. Club for.playing an unregistered player, the opinion being held that an unregistered player could not be dealt with. The New Zealand Football Association wrote.stating that the Taranaki Association had for the present cancelled the; Brown Shield match set down for Saturday next. Tt was decided that the amount of expenses incurred be forwarded to tho N.Z.E.A., and a refund of same be asked for under Brown Shield rules. It was decided that the Swifts and Thistle game be played at Miramar 011 Saturday next, and that the final between Wadestowu and St. David's be played at Duppa Street. The Lacrosse Association was granted permission to use the W.P. Association's portion of the Basin Reserve on July 30. With reference to an- appeal from A. Johnson regarding an appeal lward being set up to go into the sentences on himself and 011 Hall (suspended at the same time), a decision was received t from the Appeal Board to the effect that there should have been no difference in the sentences imposed 011 the two men. 'It was decided'to ask the Appeal Board to define the sentence, and to state whether Hall's suspension should ba increased or Johnson's reduced. It was decided that entries for all challenge cup matclics must be in the hands of the secretary before noon on Tuesday next. Swifts Club was granted permission to withdraw its second division team. The secretary mentioned that the game with Otago woulfl be the next Brown Shield match, and it was decided to suggest August 20 its a suitable date. Also to apply for the Athletic Park for that date, in default the Basin Reserve. Following are tho chances in grounds for. Saturday's games First division: Swifts'v. Thistle, No. fi Miramar (Mr. A. Williams). 'Second division: Diamonds v. Brooklyn, No. 5 Miramnr (Mr. S. Guv). Third division (final): Wadestown v. St. David's, Duppa Street (Mr. E. Wells).

Horeawa, Day's Bay No. 3; Celtic A v. Tui, Petono; St. Mark's v. Ccltic B, St. Mark's (win by default); Hercmai v. Ramblers, Day's Bay No. 5. No. 1 and 3 grounds at Day's Bay are not available for ladies' games owing to the representative matches.
