The certificate has been in Mr Mayes's possession for a considerable time, and the fact that it had been granted to him was announced last May. The deed which it recognises was done in April, 1009. A shunter named T. H. Williams was engaged in shunting operations at Ljjttelton Station when he jumped olf the first of a string of moving wagons to turn tlie points. His -foot became caught in a diamond crossing, and lie ivas' unable to. release himself.
