BRITISH BY-ELECTION.
A CONSERVATIVE VICTORY. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright London, July 20. The for the Eirkdale Division of Liverpool, consequent on the death of the sitting member, Mr. C. M'Arthur, Unionist,, has resulted in the return of Mr. Kyffin Taylor, Unionist. The voting was as. follows:— Mr. Kyffin Taylor (Unionist) 4,268 Mr. A. G. Cameron (Labour) ... 3,427 Unionist majority 841 (Rec. July 21, 10.50 p.m.) Mr. Ivyifin Taylor, in a speech after the poll, claimed that, a victory had been won for Constitutionalism as against Socialism. He also declared that the election was a protest against the new Accession Declaration.
The seat has long been a Conservative stronghold. At the General Election in January last Mr. C. Arthur (Conservative) received .414-1 votes, and Mr. Cameron (Labour) 3921, the Conservative majority being 223, the lowest on record since 1892. ■
