LIVE STOCK SALES.

Messrs. Abraham and Williams, Ltd., report:—At our Wailtanao sale yesterday we had a, small yarding of sheep and a good yarding of cattle. All stock sold well at auction, and we had a total clearance at the following prices:—Aged ewes in lamb, 6s. to 10s. 6d.j fat and forward ewes, lis.; small hoggets, 75.; J-year bullocks, £6; fat bullocks, £8 10s.; fat cows, £5 10s.; 2J-year steers, £4 17s. 6d.

Messrs. Abraham and Williams, Ltd., report that at Jlr. Kirkcaldic's clearing sale o£ dairy cows on Wednesday, there was a good attendance of buyers, and competition was keen lor all cows offered. The best cows, due to calve in August and September, mado from £8 10s. to £9 155.; others. £6 to £7 15s. Tho best of tho.cowß m milk mado from £B.to £13 55.; heifers in milk and 'not in calf, and cows that had been in milk for some time, made from £5 to £7. Tho whole herd of <& cows realised an average of £8 per head.

(By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, July 20. At Addlngton there were fair entries of 6tock, ami a limited attendance. Fat cattle- Bold at advance. I'a.t sheep also brought higher rates, ■ in consequence of the small yarding. lTinio fat lambs were hruier, and pigs showed no > change. in fats, but: stores were in better demand. There was better sale tor store cattle, in consequence ol the improvement in the quality of the offering, and dairy cows sold well .

The yarding of store sheep was much larger tliaii last week, ana the quality snowed an improvement, some very good lines ci ones oeing on oiler. There was keener competition for wethers than of late, and prices advanced 6d. to 9d. per head. Good sound-mouth ewes sold up to 16s. Id for halfureds,. to 17s. 6d. for tnreequarterbreds. Other lines of s.ni. ewes brought lis. 3d. to 155., and inferior sorts S>3. to 10s. 6d. Forward wethers made 15s. 6d., and others Us.-to 15s. Hoggets weTe in good demand, and prices in some cases improved to the extent of i)d. per head. Good lines of mixed sexes brought 12s. to 12s. 9d.; medium, lis. to Us. Vd.; aufl small, to medium, 9s. to ■ 10s. 6d. Best ewe lambs sold up to 15s. Id., and others to 12s.

The entry of fat lambs totalled 937, the duality, being bettor than last week's yarding. Anything prime sold well, at rather, irroer rates, 'rhere were 670 taken for freezing at 12s. to 16a. 9d., and up to IBs. 2d. for a few special lots. ■ A few were bought by butchers at 14s. to Us. 2d., WO went to graziers at 13s. 2d., and 104 were passed. ■

There were only about 3000 fat sheep yarded, and this short supply, coupled with the fact that a West , Coast buyer was operating, had the effect of considerably hardening prices for both ewes and wethers, and prime lots, which formed a good proportion of the yarding, advanced fully Is. per head, though the market cased towards the close. '.No business'was done for export. The range of prices was: Extra line wethers, to 275.; prime, 18s. 6d. to 245. 6d.;. higher, 15s. to 18s.; extra prime, ewes, to 225. 9d.; prime, 18s. to 205.; medium, 13s. 6d. to 15s. 6(1.; aged and light. 10s. 6d. to 13s. The yarding of fat cattle totalled 291, and the average quality was again good, a number of station lines being included among the number. There v. as aetivc competition, and prices advanced in,some instances 2s. per 1001b. Steers made £7 to £11 155., and extra to £18, the latter figure being for a show bullock belonging to J. I'crgusson. Heifers, £5 17s. 6d. to £9; extra, to £10; and cows, £4 17s. 6d. to £7 10s.; extra, to £9 155., equal to 19s. to 28s. per 1001b., according to quality. An average yarding of veal calves made 4s. 6d. to 60s.

A small yarding of store cattle, consisting principally of 18-months ■ and ■ 2 and 3-year steers. The,quality.was better than usual, and the demand, waß moro satisfactory. 15 to 18-raonths sorts made 425. 6d.; 2-ycar' steers, £3 9s. to £4 2s. 6d.; 3-year etecrs passed at £7 155.; 3-yoar heifers, £4; dry cows, 455. to £4 10s.; dairy cows mado £3 10s. to £9 10s.

There was a medium entry of pigs, and fats sold at lato rates, but stores met with more inquiry. Heavy baconers mad 3 <6s. to 505.; lighter, 375. to 455! (equal to 4d. per lb.); large porkers, 31s. to 365.; lighter, 255. to 30s. (equal to'4»d. to 43d. per lb.); medium stores, 22s.'to-275.; smaller, 14s. to 18s.; and weanors, 6s. to 10s.

Dunedln, July 20. At Buraside stock market 138 rat cattlewere yarded. As butchers''/supplies were very short bidding was brisk, and prices showed, an advance of from 10s. to 15s. per head. A line of very prime cattle from Southland realised up to £16 7s. 6d:; best bullocks, £10 ss. to £12; extra, heavy, £15 7s. 6d.. to £16 17s. 6d.; medium to good, £9 15s. to £10 155.; light, £7 15s. to £8 155.; best cows and heifers, £8 to £9 55.; extra, to £10 155.; medium, £6 10s. to £7 10s.; light and inferior, £5 to. £6:

Sheep: 2365 penned, consisting of fairly primo Quality. Not many ewes were forward. , The sale was very erratic, prices fluctuating a good deal. Heavy wethers wore slightly easier than last week, and ewes, although Arm at the commencement, dropped considerably towards the finish. Best wethers, 18s. to 195.; extra, to Zls. 6d.; medium, 15s. to 15s; 6d.; inferior, 13s. to 145.; best ewes, 15s. to 16s.' 6d.; extra heavy, to 19s. 3d.;, medium to good,. 13s. 6d. to lis. 6d.; light, 9s. to 10s. 6d. Lambs: 1139 penned. Competition by exporters was keen, and prices-were; if', anything, a little better than at last sale. Best, 15s. to 17s. 6d.; medium to good, 245. to 255.; light, Us. 6d. to 12s. 6d.

Pigs: About ICO were, yarded. • There was good inquiry for 6mall pigs, and prices were decidedly better.. Porkers and baconers wore in short 6upply, and pales also ehow'ed p. good rise.
