About 3500 acres of the Glensowan and the Craigie Lea estates, near Te Wharau, are to be disposed of by auction in three ■ blocks next' month, telegraphs our Masterton correspondent. ■ Our Masterton correspondent says that the 'work of ■ constructing the pavilions on the A. and P. Association's new show ground at Solway'was comnionced yesterday. There will be two pavilions,: each* of' which' will contain, two hundred sheep pens. The whole of the stud sheep sent to the show will be put under cover. ' -Tho Crown Lands Commissioner (Mr. .Mackenzie), with Messrs. J. Dawson and K. T. Ellingham, -members of the Wellington Laud Board,', visited the Carrington Estate, near Carterton yesterday, and 'were very pleased with the improvements mado. To-day they will inspect an area of about 2000 acres in Ihuraua Valley, the lease of which shortly expires, to ascertain if it is suitable for cutting up into small areas. —Masterton correspondent.' ' Yesterday Mr. T. -W. M'Kenzie, of Masterton, shipped south by the Mararoa twenty-six purebred Hereford cattle, which he had disposed of to Mr. John Ferguson, of Halswell,. Christchurch. The cattle' were purchased- by Mr. M'Kenzie from Mr. A. J. Stone-Wigg, who had bought them from; Mr. James Stuckoy, the"well-known bioeder uf the white-faced cattle. ■ ■ Mr. T. A. Knight, in a paper load before the lloyal Society in 1837, said that the Norwegian ponies showed strong hereditary propensities, Their ancestors, had-for long ages been in the habit of obeying the voice of the rider, and not tho bridle, > "and the- horsnbroakers complain that it is impossible to produce this last habit in the young colts. They aro', notwithstanding, exceedingly docile and obedient when they understand the commands of their master. It is equally difficult to keep them within hedge;, owing, perhaps, to the unrestrained liberty their ancestors have enjoyed." The new Stratford A. and P. Association appears to be progressing encouragingly. A. "Taranaki News" correspondent says that members continue to come forward for enrolment, and at tho next. meeting sixty new members will be proposed for election. This will bring the membership close to six hundred. - . •About 800 people took tickets in connection with the sheep guessing competition promoted at the Hawera Winter Show by tho Hawera Hospital Board. As evidence of tho remarkably- mild winter Taranaki has had so far, an Okaiawa resident picked a ripe strawberry in his garden last week.—"Hawora Star." At a meeting of the executive' of the Stratford A. anil P. Association, Mr. Healy was authorised to prepare a sketch plan of a grandstand not to cost more than £750.
