AIINEHS DEMAND MORE "WAGES. 'iiy TeleeraDb— Presa Association.: Hokitika, July 18. Messrs. Semple and Hickey, president and'secretary respectively of tlie West Coast Labour Union, have recently been visiting Ross for the purpose of forming a union among those employed at the Ross Goldfields mine. At a special meeting held on Sunday it was resolved, by 42 votes to 18, to strike at the end of the present month unless the company paid the men at the mine 12s. instead of the present rate of 10s. per shift. The dictation of the union is regarded as a serious matter, especially in view of the many difficulties the company has had to contend with.
