SENSATIONAL OCCURRENCE.
.. ATTEMPT TO BLOW TIP A RESIDENCE. (By Telcgrapn.—Press Association.) Auckland, July 18. It has just'been reported that at-Here-kino on Sunday, July 10, a dastardly attempt was made to blow up the residence of Jlr. Powell, a local County Council member. Shortly after the family retired to rest there was an explosion, and one of the rooms was filled with smoke, and they heard a horse galloping away. Con-, stable Budd found an empty treacle tin and a long length of fuse under Mr. Powell's bedroom. The occurrence is believed to be the work of the fire fiend who som- time ago started fires in the district, but has never been captured.
