DWARFING WANGANUI.
\ * DUES PAID ELSEWHERE. ißy l'eloEruo'a.-bpecial Correspondent.! Wanganui, July 18. The fact that Wangauui dots not got full credit for its .export ami import trade in tho Government statistics published at various periods was again discussed at the Chamber of Commerce meeting this morning. It was mentioned that several important businesses in town were branches of wholesale houses in Wellington and elsewhere, and Customs duties were paid outside Wanganui for goods intended for sale here. In the export trade also it was pointed out that a large quantity of wool and other produce sent from here was credited to Wellington, and Wanganui, as a commercial centre, suffered by comparison with even smaller places.
Mr. D. M' Farlane thought that the chamber should impress on local merchants the desirability of paying all Customs duties possible in Wanganui, and" to that end, moved and it was carried unanimously: "That a circular letter be sent by the chamber to local merchants ia the direction indicated."
