Tho Manawatu Hockey Association has fixed July 27 for the match with Wairarapa. The game will bo played on tlio show grounds, Palmerston. A Mannwatu team will be selected immediately to go into training for this and other matches. LADIES' ASSOCIATION. Mr. J. D. M'lntyre (chairman) presides! at a meeting of the committee of tho Wellington Ladies' Hockey Association, held in the Y.M.C.A. last evening. A matter of importance was tho consideraof tho resignation of Miss L. N. M'Kerrow, the secretary of the association. Miss M'Kerrow's reasons for resignation were the lethargy displayed by club secretaries and a lack of support generally from those who should assist her. The chairman referred to tho very excellent services which Miss M'Kerrow had rendered, and asked her to reconsider her decision. His appeal was backed brothers present, and eventually Miss M'Kerrow decided to retain tho office. It was resolved to endeavour to arrango a ladies' representative matchjunior preferred—on a shield match day, some time )>efore the tournament, which commences in Nelson on August 31. The association decided to send, junior and senior representative, teams, and it was hoped thai, through the appeal now being made to clubs, ■ half the expenses would be defrayed by the association. Messrs. Spencer, Onyou, Seater and Co. have offered to present a hockey stick to the lady who collects the most money towards tho expenses of tho Nelson trip.'. LADIES' MATCHES. Tho Ladies' Association lias drawn up Saturday's fixtures- as, follows:— .' Senior. Victoria Collego A v. Petone, Pctono; St. John v. Gregg's, Duppa Street; Hinernoa v. Wellington, Day's Bay, No. 3; Victoria College B, a bye. Junior. Gregg's v. Haeremai (Gregg's win by default); Girls' College v. Celtic. B (Collego win by dofault); Celtic A v. College Old Girls', Day's Bay, No .1; Hereavra v. Tui, Kolburne Park;' Ramblers v. St. John, Day's Bay, No. 2; St. Mark, a bye. Tho match St. Mark v.' Girls' College, postponed on May 7, will be played on No. 1 ground, Day's Bay. BOXING. LOCAL TOURNEY TO-NIGHT. Since the inauguration of amateur championships by the Wellington Boxing Association, t.he annual fixturo has become a favourite one with followers of the sport, and to-night's entertainment promises to be as successful, if not more so, than any previous championship contests. Tho decision to hold all tho contests on one night should mean that patrons will seo the preliminaries and finals in all tho weights on the ono night. With ono or two exceptions all last year's winders a.re competing on this occasion, and in addition several new men with good credentials will lie seen for the first time, and some particularly keen bouts should, result. Suburban residents are reminded that, there is a late train from To Aro and Wellington.
