: * PERSONAL NOTES FROM LONDON. London, May 19. Mr. J. H. Upton and Mr. John A. •Jewell, M.8., of New Zealand, have oined the Roynl Colonial Institute. Mr. Philip R. Pfesants, of Christhureh, is in England, and is visiting his mtive Norwich after an absence of 13 ears. Miss F. Ritchie, of Dunedin, and Miss )allas, of Balclntha, who arrived by the tuapehu, are now touring in Scotland. Mr. Louis Colieti, of Wanganui, has arived in London, accompanied by two sisers, and is staying, with his brother, Dr. }ohen, in Brondesbury. Mr. John Gordon, of Ilamilton, arrived n England by tho Otranto, and after ;taying for a lew weeks at Berner's Hotel ias gone to Scotland for a trip. Mr. J. C. Moray, of New Plymouth, ar•ived in London by the Mongolia. He vill be here six or seven weeks, leaving London in July for Canada en route for Sydney. Captain P. W. W. Dawson (Eoyal Army \ledical Corps), of Auckland, -who came ■a London some time ago with Mrs. Dawson, is studying here for his majors samination. Mr. Robert Englcs, of Palraerston Siorth, spent a week.in England after Ins irrival, and left last week for a trip to ;ho. Continent, He returns to the Doninion next August. . Mr. Jl H. Aikcn, of Wanganui, who irrived in London by-the Mongolia, proposes to include a tour in Spain in his itinerary, and to leave on his return to New Zealand, on Ocotbcr 22. Mrs Hunkett and her daughter, of Wellington, aro on a twelve months' pleaiuro trip to this country. They arc now in Ireland for eight weeks, intending later to visit various parts of England. Mr A. E. M. Rhind, of Wellington, irho arrived from New Zealand recently by the Arawa; has come to take.up work in the London office of the Bank of New South Wales. He expects to be here for about, a year. Mr. Eric Whitcombc, of Whitcombo ind Tombs, Limited, Christchurch, who arrived here by the Otranto on April 30, proposes to spend May and June in London, and then travel about EDgland Mid Scotland. Mrs. and Miss Hayhurst, of Christ;hurch, are staying at present at Staines, Middlesex. They have been in England md on the Continent since the; end of last August, and/intend remaining here till the end of the summer. Mr, and Mrs. W. Parker, of Wellington, arrived in London by the Tainul. Mr. Parker is travelling ior his health, and intends visiting' Scotland in a few weeks' time with his daughter, who has been in London for about two years; Mr. M..G.'M'Gregbr, of Auckland, with his two sisters, Misses C and J. .C. M'Gregor, leave London shortly for a tnontVs visit to the Continent, later visiting Scotland, and then New York, before returning to New Zealand. Miss A. Arrow, of Pretoria and Hawke's Bay, is in' London on a holiday from South Africa, , where she has been for eight years. She will be here for about six' months, dividing her time between Great Britain and the Continent. Mr. and Mrs. H. 0. Nolan,. Mr. Eric, and Miss Dorothy, Nolan, of Auckland, have arrived in London, and are staying atißerner's Hotel; Thoy intend visiting Scotland, Ireland, and the Continent before returning to New' Zealand next Octobei. ■-. ■ At this week's meeting of the council of tho Royal College of Surgeons ot .England, Mr. D. F. Borrie,. of the' New Zealand and Edinburgh University, and Mr. A C Palmer, of New Zealand university and London Hospital, were admitted as members, of tho college'. . ' ' j Mrs. Kblleston, of Wellington, has now happily quite recovered from the illness that caused such grave anxiety on board the Moldavia, when'she had to be disembarked and sent to the Aden Hospital. Mrs. Rolleston is in London, and intends visiting Ireland and' Scotland next month, later going to Paris and New York. ' .. iMrwCyr,us J. Williams, engineer..to,the Lyttelton Harbour. Board, has lately, arrivwl in London after visiting,ltaly, and Switzerland. Mr. Williams's trip is on business for his board,.principally.to inquire into-tho-suitability of the Kruhling system of dredging for the maintenance of tho depths in the Lyttelton Harbour, and also to gather any information that may be useful to the board. He returns to the Dominion early in July, travelling via Vancouver. Mr. and Mrs. H. l>. Girdwood, who arrived at Avonmouth, Bristol, at tho end of January, have just reached London. The voyago to England was taken on account of Mr. Girdwbod's health, which has greatly benefited by the change. They spent three weeks in Monte-. Video on the way. Mrs. E. Ward, of Christchurch, after 52 years' absence from England, has recentlv returned here on. holiday. After spending three weeks in Wales she came to London this week, and later she proposes to visit Scotland, and to say with relatives at Havorstock Hill, London, leaving for New Zealand in the autumn by P. and 0. The Hon. Charles and Mrs. Louisson,. oi Christchurch, arrived in London last week after spending a month visiting the Riviera and Paris. . They intend to put in a eouple of months in London, then visit the Lake District, Scotland, and Ireland, later seeing Vienna, Berlin, Budapesth, Hamburg, Switzerland, and Italy.- Mr. and Mrs. Louisson will probably leave England early in October, spending a fortnight in Egypt on tlteii way out to New Zealand. again. Miss Laura E. James, lately a sister ir the Wellington Hospital, has arrived ir England after .travelling for., some week; on the Continent.; She j! is "at present visiting.relatives in South Wales. Mi« James has come to London with a view to entering, if possible, the Queen Alex, andra. Imperial Military Nursing Service An octogenarian "globe trotter" is always remarkable, and Mr. Eric Craig, one of Auckland's very oldest identities, is a specially enthusiastic and •vigorous traveller. Hs is over 80, and has beer a resident of Auckland far 57 years. Mr. Craig intends to stay in Europe till No. vember, returning to New; Zealand bj China, Japan, and New Guinea. Mr. AV...F. Ware, late of Auckland,and now a resident in Brazil, is on a visit t< England. He arrived on April 9, frojr Rio d_e Janeiro, and will remain till som< time in July. Mr. Ware is engaged to bf married to Mrs. Seavill, formerly oi Rosaria, Argentina, and the .wedding wil take place shortly, in London. Mrs. Sea vill has lately visited Auckland. Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Jones, of Christ church, a.re on a visit to London, fron which Mrs. Jones has been absent 52. am her husband 32 years. Robinson, of Riccarton, Christ church, has just completed his third yeai at Guy's Hospital, with a list of 'fine performances -to his credit. He haj passed the Primary Fellowship of th< Royal College of Surgeons, England, oik the Intermediate M.8., 8.5., tied for th< Sands Cox scholarship of Guy's, awardet for three years for physiology, and woi tho Junior Efficiency Prize at Guy's.
