Wellington, C.M.G., has been appointed private secretary to Queen Mary. • ■ [Mr. "Wellington, who was born in 1854, is well known and socially very popular in Australasia. Ho was appointed to a position on tho Gubernatorial staff in Fiji in 1883; in New* South Wales in 1885; in Victoria in 1889 and 1895; aud in South Australia in 183 G. In 1901 Mi*. Wallington became private secretary to Lord Hopetoun (then Governor-General of Australia), and clerk of the Federal Executive Council of the Commonwealth. In 1902 he acted as private secretary to Lord Tennyson, Acting-Governor-General of Australia. In athletic pastimes he earned a reputation; For .five years he .was in the Sherborne cricket eleven, and played for Oxford against Cambridge in 1887. He won the lawn tennis captaincy in New South Wales in 1887.]
