A COLD TRAIN TRIP.
SNOW ON MAIN TRUNK LINE. The bitterly cold feather which set in towards the end of last week still continues. Travellers by the Main Trunk express which reached Auckland on Sunday said that they had had an extremely cold journey, but some of the number stated that the. discomforts on this score were more than compensated for by the magnificent views that had been obtained of the snow-mantled Ruapehu, and the accumulations of snow between Ohakune and Raurimu. For the first time since the opening of the line right through to Wellington, . the snow plough kept in readiness to deal with drifts on that section of the line was placed in use on the front of a goods train which passed through on Friday, en route from Auckland to Wellington. There was not, however, any extensive blockage on the line, and the plough was not needed for either the' north or south-bound expresses. Correspondents '* of tho Auckland "Herald" report that snow is lying lOin. deep at Raurimu, and ISin. deep on the Waimarino Plains.
