(From Oar Special CorrGjoontfent.) Wanganui, Juno 16. A dccidedly cold snap ia being experienced here, though tho heary 'rain w)iich fell most of yesterday and last night has »bsted. Mr. W. H. Swanger, who recently Reclined the posiiion of secretary to the College Trustees, has been promoted by the Education Board from the position of chief elerk to assistant secretary. The Poivclka Petition Committee has arranged a well-organised system of canvass for signatures. Tho local Chamber of Commerce intends sending a delegate to tho forthcoming conference at Pnlmerston North for the purpose of forming a North Island railway league. The monthly meeting of tho Wanganui Agricultural Association was held yesterday, when a step forward was taken in tlio arrangements for the next show. Schedules of home industries, art', technical and secondary sohools, grain and produce, were approved on somowhat altered lines to those of last year, with an increase in - prize-money. Two members offered special prizes (which wero accepted with thanks), ono for the best essay on Native flora, and the other for the best design for the association's medals. It was decided to send a cable to Mr. E. Short (a member of tlio association), congratulating him on his great success at the recent sheep show at Buenos Ayr'es.
