MANAWATU HUNT.

r $ Wednesday afternoon did not prove) l altogether favourable for the meeting of the Manawatu Hunt Club, but, notwithstanding this, a fair number gathered at Fitzherbert East, and a pleasant timo was spent hunting over the properties there. The drag was laid by Mr. T. Shaw, on McTTjeiegs. Mr. Bruce M'Ewen (deputy master) was in chargo of the field, and his duties were not at all enviable owing to tho slippery condition of the ground, but nevertheless ho got the followers safely through without mishap. Mr. D. Bennett as usual had the hounds in fine and led very true from start to finish. Tho whip was in the hands of Mr. Roy Green, and he fulfilled his duties admirably. At the conclusion ox tho hunt, afternoon tea was dispensed by Mesdames S. R. Lancaster and G. Shaw, and needless to say it was greatly appreciated. Mr. Bruce M'Ewen (master) thanked the ladies for their hospitality, and also tho property owners for allowing them tho privilege of hunting over their properties. Mr. Lancaster, on behalf of tho ladies and proporly-owners, stated they fully appreciated Mr. M'Jilwen's remarks, but what they had done was in tho interests of the club, and only regretted that tho hunt did not take placo more frequently in that locality. Among those following were: Miss Angus on Princess, and Messrs. B. M'Ewen on Ringman, D. Bennett on Merrie Girl, Roy Green on The Judge, Thos. Shaw on Merrielegs, 0. F. Anderson on Despatch, J. M'Naughton on Glencoe, A. Buick on Wisdom, Jas. Buick on Brown Ribbon, H. Lancaster on Bonnie, I. Shaw on ICaka, Leo. Collinson on The Major, J. Campbell on Cobweb, J.; D. Kcarins on Mona, and J. Scales on Captain Ivcttle. The next meet will take place at Otaki on Saturday.
