CRUELTY TO ANIMALS.

A shocking case of cruelty to animals came before Mr. Porritt, S.M., at Naseby, this week, when Georgo Berry was charged that, being the owner of eight dogs and ooie foal, he omitted to supply them with proper and sufficient food and water between Slav 14 and June 5. The, evidence showed that between the dates mentioned Berry was staying at a hotel near Naseby, and was more or less under the influence of liquor. During tho oarlier part of his stay he sent several people to his camp, where the dogs were drained up. with food and water for the animals, but defendant could not satisfy the Court that during the latter portion the dogs had been fed at all. The foal was removed, during the first week, and foul' of the dogs, were removed, or broke loose, but two of the remaining four died, and a third was very far gone. Defendant was fined <£10 and costs.
