day. ' ■ An excellent idea is being carried out by the Educational Department of the i.11.C.A. in the form of a series of lectures upon popular science subjects. Last evening, to a-good attendance, Mr. \V. S. La Trobe, director of the Technical School, lectured on "Electricity, Its Early History and liccenf Development." The "subject was well chosen, and Mr. La Trobo was able lo treat it in a most interesting manner, that was no! above the heads of his hearers. A hearty vole of thanks was passed to tho lecturer for his address. 'Clio now- telegraph form which it lias been decided to adopt in New Zealand, and which is now in use in Duncdin, will bo introduced in Auckland in n few days. Tho principal feature of tho new form (says tho Auckland "Herald") is that tho separate cnvelopo is dispensed with. The message after being written by the operator is so folded as to leave the address visible, whilst the message itself is covered and made secure from observation. Tho telegrams are folded ;ind secured in the operating-room, instead of being soul/ into another room to ho placed in envelopes. Tho messages thus puss through fewer hands, and a great saving in labour can also be secured. A further improvement lias been effected by which tho telegram will shortly bo folded'and closed by machinery, which will still further reduce' the labour and the number of hands through which n telegram passes before reaching tho addressee.
