The Government of Jamaica, owing to the colony's financial buoyancy, are introducing iuto the Legislature a Bill removing the Customs duty on condensed milk, artisans' tools, water-pumps, and fencing-iron, and reducing the duty on soap by 50 per cent. The changes involve a decrease in revenue of nearly .£20,000 a year. HORDERN APPEAL CASE. London, June 7. The Privy Council dismissed the Sydney appeal case Hordern versus Hordern, arising out of a claim for a share of the business of Anthony Hordern and Sons. AUDIENCE WITH. THE POPE. Rome, Juno 8. The Marine Court suspended for twelve months the certificate of Captain Menburn, master of the steamer Wyreema, in connection with the collision with tho collier Currajoug on March 8 (which resulted in tho loss of a life.]
[On March 8 the A.U.S.N. Company's steel twin-screw steamer Wyreemn, G'33B tons gross, while outward bound, collided with the collier Currajong, from the South Coast, off Bradley's Head. The collier sank in five minutes, and one man. was drowned. The rest of her crew were rescued by ferry boats. The Wyreema returned to port without very serious damage. A coroner's inquiry into the death of Ilanssn, the man lost in the Currajong, found that the collision was brought about by the culpable negligence of Cnptain Mcaburn, of the Wyreemn, who was committed for trial for manslaughter. Subsequently, the State At-torney-General (Mr. Wade) decided not to file a bill against Captain Meaburn for manslaughter.!
