"ALL BLACKS": MAY BE RE- • INFORCKD. t will not come as a surprise if the manager of the New Zealand team (Mr. Meredith) cables for a couple of extra backs within a few days. During the course of The Dominion report on tho match Now Zealand versus Wellington it was stated that Stohr appeared to take far too much care of himself. It now appears that the Taranaki three-quarter was in "tight bandages" owing to -the fact that in a recent game he suffered a slight injury to one of his ribs. Burns, the Canterbury half, too, is at present unable to do himself justice. It was no--ticed, prior to the departure of the team on Friday .night, that his face was considerably swollen, as a result (it is reported) of a very strenuous knock. Apart from these two "casualties" the team could have done . with somo strengthening in the back division, so it will be seen that extra men are all the more needed now. If it is decided to send additional backs thero is every reason to believe that the claims of Evenson, who is in splendid form just now, will be considered. Should another forward or tiro be needed it is hard to see how Avery can be over-looked.
GATE AT "ALL BLACK" MATCH. According to tho official returns G.IOO
persons, including 432 juveniles, paid for admission to the Athletic Park on Friday when the "All Blacks" played Wellington. Of the total takings, which
amounted to .£3lB, the Wellington Union I , receives two-thirds of the net amount— ' about .£2oo—as rental for tho ground and compensation owing to tho loss of revenue duo to the fact that it was pre- ' vented from arranging a match on its own account. It is understood that' the balance (£100) will go into tho fund which is to be pooled by the New Zealand and }New South Wales Unions in connection i. with the tour of the "All Blacks." EEFEREES' INNOVATION. WEEKLY LECTURES ON RULES. -A- meeting of the Wellington Referees' Association was ' held last • evening in the Y.M.C.A. Rooms. Mr. I). M'Kenzie presiding. A letter was received from the secre-
'' tarv of the Wellington Rugby Union \ ; stating that the Athletic Football Club ' had =eiit the following to the Union,
asking that it be forwarded on to the N.Z. Referees' Association for decision-.—
"A player throwing the hall out from touch, throws it back towards his own iu-goul. lie (toes so again and is warned by tho referee that it it occurs again lie will bo penalise. The player again throws the ball out, buck towards his own in-goal, ami the releree awards a free kicK ten yarns irom the touch line."
The secretary of (he union added in his letter that it appeared to be a matter tor the local association to decide. If they were unable to give a liecisbu,. then the governing body's opinion should be sought.
It was decided to forward the letter to tho N.Z Association, with a coverino note staling that the Wellington Association had already decided tnai Section (m) of Law 11 of the "By-laws of the Game" justified the referee in the decision lie had given. In' connection with the annual football match, the secretary was instructed to write to the Mannwatn ■ Referees' Association to ask them if they would'be willing to play the Wellington Referees at Palmerston North this season. Last season tha Mann.valu lie - Vnrecs brought down a team to Wellington, and the local association is anxious to give them a return match.
On the sugg3-<tion of Sir. I), i'l. Mullins it was decided that some senior member;, of the association deliver lectures on the laws of the game on Saturday night for the benefit of junior players. Messrs Sievers, Laws, Card, Forclvce, Meredith, and M'Kenzio proffered thai:*' services for the lectures, Mr. M'lCenzic to start the lectures nextSaturday night, at 8 o'clock, in the Y.M.C.A. At the present time the meetings of the association are open to play-, era who may care to attend to hear the rules discussed and explained, but it was pointed out that some clubs have gymnasium practice on Monday nights, and their members would be unable to attend. The Saturday night lectures will be open to anyone at all tint may care to attend. A letter is to bo forwarded to tho Wellington Rugby Union notifying them of the new scheme, and tho different clubs will be circularised. Thero were quite a number of young Rugby enthusiasts present at last night's meeting of the association, and it is believed that the Saturday night lectures, will'be very popular. : FOURTH CLASS RESULTS. In our yesterday's issue, among tho Fourth Class results. Hutt was credited with defeating Melrose by S Doints to 3. It appears that Mclroso Fourth Class beat Poneke by 19 to nil. The match.
