LYALL BAY PURCHASE.

NEGOTIATIONS STILL .PROCEEDING. The question of the purchase of an area of land at the east end of Lyall Bay from the trustees of the Crawford Estate was considered briefly in committee the City Council yesterday. After the meeting the Mayor made the following statement to the press:—"The sub-com-mittee previously appointed by the council mot the trustees, and the details of a basis for negotiation were entered into and were submitted to the council today. These details will now be reduced to writing ready for the next meeting of the council." It is understood that in the meantime the City Solicitor will confer with the Hon. T. W. Hislop, representing the trustees. It is also understood that the basis of negotiation now under consideration between the parties differs considerably from the offer of 24 acres at .£IBO an acre, subject to, rights of access, first made by the' trustees, new proposals having been put forward by the Citv Council. The council is very hopeful" that a satisfactory agreement will be arrived at with the trustees.
