DAMAGES AWARDED.
ISLAND CAPTAIN AND NATIVES. (Rec. June 3, 9.40 p.m.) Brisbane, June 3. Tho hearing has concluded of the action brought by Captain John Strachan, master of the schooner Envy, against the Brisbane Newspaper Company for alleged defamation. The case arose out of certain statements alleged to havo been made by the German Consul-Gen-oral, reflecting on plaintiff's dealings with the natives of Tobi Island.
Plaintiff claimed £5000 damages. Ho was awarded £500 damages, with costs.
