A QUICK MILE. By Telegraph—Press Aspocintlun—Copyrlcfi* (Rec. May 31. 9.10 p.m.) , New York, May 41. Mr. Barney Oldlield, in 'a 200 horsepower Benz automobilie, on tho Indianopolis speedway, covered n milo in 35 3-ssec. Tho motor-car record for one mile is held by Mr. Oldfield, who in March last covered the distance in a Benz car (power not cabled), at Daytona, in Florida, in 27 l-3sec. It is not improbable, in view of the previous message, that llifi" time cabled is incorrect, and should be 25 3-5 sec. Following are some previous records:— One mile (standing start): 37 3-Jiscc., A. M'Donald, Florida. U.S.A., in .Innunry, 1905. One milo: 28 l-Ssec., F. Marriott (steam car), Florida, U.S.A., in January, 190 G. Oils mile: 30 3-ssec., Chevrolet (petrol), Florida, U.S.A., in January, 190(1.
