PROBLEMS FOR CITY COUNCIL.
IMPOETANT NOTICES 'OF MOTION.
The following notices of motion will be considered at to-morrow evening's meeting of the City Council:-
Councillor Trevor to, move -.—"That the City Engineer be authorised to proceed with the remodelling and extension of latrines in Courtenay Place, both east and west ends."
Councillor Luke to move:—"That this council recognise that a very considerable portion of the city residential, commercial, and industrial developments will extend to Kilbirnie and adjacent districttogether, with tho no doubt early extending of the city's boundaries to embrace the Miramar Peninsula. '
"That they aro of the opinion that the timo has arrived when an improved access connecting tho city, with the southern portion of its outlying areas should be given effect to—such access to be of a minimum grado to enable a more speedy und humane vehicular traffic and provision for pedestrians. "That to give effect to this desks the City Engineer be instructed to survey route, prepare costs, and submit same >to the council at an early date, together with such other information and details as he and the council may deem requisite to determine the question. "That the Miramar Borough Council be asked to co-operate in carrying out the proposal."
Ballinger to move:—"(1) That the council takes steps under the provisions of ' the Fire Brigades Act, 1908, and its amendments to apply to the Governor for an Order-in-Council declaring tho city of Wellington to be a fire district under the Fire Brigades Act, and that tho necessary poll of ratepayers of the city in connection therewith be taken on some day to be appointed.
"(2) That the council request the Government to amend Section 3 of the amending Act, 1908, by striking out the following words, 'shall be deemed to be carried unless at least one-third of the ratepayers of that district have validly exercised their votes in respect of that proposal,' and substitute the following: 'That the proposal shall bo deemed to be carried if tiro-thirds of the valid votes of the ratepayers are cast in favour of tho proposal.'"
