SALVATION ARMY BAND FESTIVAL.

♦ : — A large number of people, were present in the Salvation Army Citadel last evening, when, an entertainment, given by the Berhampore Baptist Choir and tne Lyric Male Choir, for the purpose of adding to the funds of the Salvation Array Bund, took place. Colonel Knight, ui an interesting little speech, introduced the Kev. Keith Ewen to the audience as the chairman of tho evening. "Mr. Uwen expressed his great pleasure in being present ou tho occasion, and his sympathy with tho object of the entertainment. During the course of the evening, while announcing the. various items of tho programme, he entertained the audience with several amusing anecdotes or remarks, emphasising the work they were all engaged upon. The Salvation Army, was very dear to his heart for the splendid tilings they did—the many that they helped to set upon their feet. The first item upon tho varied programme was the popular anthem by the combined choirs, "The Sun Shall Be No More" (Woudward); then followed a song, by Mr. Holland. A part song, '"Comrades in Arms," was sung by the Lyric Mule Choir, and had to be repeated for illy enjoyment of tho audience. Miss Mabel Peek sang "0 Rest in tho Lord," and Mr. George Peek greatly pleased those present with a' clever recitation, followed by another one as an encore. Tho Berhampore Choir sang the lullaby,

"6 Hush Thee, My Baby," very pleasingly, and Mrs. C. Bott brought the first part of the programme to a close with the vocal solo, "Invitation" (Barry).. During the interval, Adjutant Guim intimated that another programme had been arranged for Tuesday evening, in which the Scotch Songsters and the Choir Glee Club would take part, a most'enjoyable evening's entertainment being promised. Ho also thanked the combined choirs for their help, aod promised that when either of them required help the Salvation Army Band would not forget to be of assistance. Mr. Gladstone Hill, who wielded the baton, suoko for the choirs, and said how pleased they were to bo of use upon such an occasion. In the second half of the programme, the Lyric Male Choir sang "Hark the Merry Drum" and the grand part song, "Tyrolese Hunter's March," and the Berliampore Choir "Holy Art Thou." The quartet "Cavedale " was sung by Misses Agnes Ewen and Mabel Peck and Messrs. L. Mounter and H. Holland. Mr. Robins sang "The Mighty Deep," and Messrs. Smi'tti and H. Holland sang the duet "The Battle Eve." The combined clioirs .rendered very effectively the grand anthem, "The Radiapt Morn," while the "Doxology" brought an end to a very enjoyable evening. Many thanks were due to the accompanists, Messrs. J. N. Duncan and H* Godier, for their capable work.
