THE OLD ALAMEDA SOLD. from Papeete yesterday,' states that tho Oceanic Steamship Co., of San Francisco, has sold the Alameda to tho Alaska Pnukers' Association, which owntj a fieot of, about 38 vessels. Tho Alamcda was built in 1883 at the ynrds of W. Oranin and Sons, of Philadelphia, and is of 3158 tons gross and 1939 net, with dimensions 314 ft. by 41ft. by 17.3 ft, The vessel was for a considerable time engaged in the Sun Prancicco-Auckland-Sydney mail se£ vice, and recently in tho San FranciscoHonolulu trudo. She will now trade hotwocn San Francisco and Alaska, and the Siornt will take her place in tho Honolulu service.
MOKOIA, FROM PAPEETE. At daylight yesterday morning tho Mokoia had anchored in the stream, from Papeete and Rnrotonpi. and after boinir cleared by the Port Health Oiliccd ami Customs authorities, flho berthed at Queen's Wharf at B.W a.m. The steamer had an uneventful voyaco to and from tho Islands, and was not much troubled by tho recent S.K. irales reported in different parts. On April 30, at Papeete, she exchaiiKed passengers, mails, ami carco with the Tltariposa from San Francisco Sho also brought, the usual cargo of fruit and island produce. Tho principal linos arc:-2991 cases and 100 kits bananas, 4860 cases oranges, 149 sacks copra, 20 sacks coconuts, 29 casks oil, 42 cases pearl shell £0 cases paints, etc., 25 cases vanilla, and' £'1 niicka','i!s sundries. ANOTHER OIL CHARTER. It is announced that the Vacuum Oil Company has chartered the steamer Highland Monarch to load case oil at New York for New Zealand ports. She is ex'pected to clear from New YorK early in June, and will discharge cargo at Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton,; and Dunedin, in the order named. The Highland Monarch is a steel screw Fteamer, 3931 tons gross and 2545 tons net, classed IDO Al at Lloyds. She was huilt in 1896 by 0. S. Swan and Hunter, Ltd., Newcastle, and is owned by the Monarch Steamship Co., Ltd. Her principal dimensions are:—Length, .365 ft.: breadth, 46ft.; depth, 19ft. NEW ZEALAND SHIPPING CO. A Gazette notice states that the .Wairau Harbour Board has notified that the owners of the s.s. Blenheim have placed a large black buoy at the mouth of the Wairau River, a Quarter of a mile from the flag station, boa-ring N.W. from flagstaff. Charts affected: Admiralty ChartNo. 2685; "New Zealand Pilot," eighth edition, 1908, chap, vi, pages 168 and 169. Cable news states that the Tyser liner Star of Now Zealand arrived from Dunkirk on May 2 from Australian portß.
MAITAI'S ROUGH TRIP. Strong S.E. to E. Bales were experienced by the ifaitai on the run from Sydney to Wellington.- Sho left Sydney at 3 p.m. last Saturday, and as soon as North 'Head was cleared the steamer ran into the teeth of a gale from the southeast. Heavy head seas buffeted the vessel, and rain fell in a- torrential downpour. For several hours on Sunday and again at intervals on' Monday the. Maitai waa slowed down, to prevent damage, and second-class passengers in the fore part of the ship ■ were compelled to remain' below to he out of dancer. The storm raged practically without abatement until Farewell Spit was passed on Wednesday evening. During the voyage, two promenado ladders on the saloon deck were .started from their sockets, and a couple of ventilators were wrenched out. of nosition, but no serious damage befell the vessel. Most of the passengers preferred to remain below throughout the trip, and all were glad, to reach port on Wednesday night.
NEREHANA IN ROUGH WEATHER. The Tyser liner Nerehana, which reached Afelboume on May 6, from London direct, brought a large general cargo . for Australian and New Zealand ports. Tho Kerohana left London on March 22 at midnight, but was forced to anchor in the Thames on account of the dense fog until 10 o.m. the next day. Dover was passed at 6 p.m. the same day. and tho result of the Oxford-Cambridge boat race was flashed to the steamer from there, Fine weather was experienced to the equator, which was crossed on April t. The Capo of Good Hope was rounded on April 13, and the Crozets sighted on April 19. The following day a hard N.E. gale, with, mountainous 6eas, beset the vessel, and lasted for two days, when it voored to tho W.S.W., and was accompanied by violent s,quallß, snow and hail. The storm lasted until April 30, but the steamer weathered it without damage.
At present the Nerehana is in Sydney, but she is expected to leave there to-day for Auckland, Napier, and Wellington. '

Mr. Totan, ; late .second officer of tho Pukaki, arrived from Sydney yesterday by the Maitai for orders. A heavy sea was reported to be raging at East Cane yesterday, and the Tutahcka'i is still in port awaiting a more favourable, account of the weather before proceeding to East Cape to repair the broken cable. Tho Poherua is expected to leave Greymouth at midnight to-night for Wellington.
