GREYMOUTH NOTES.
The now Salvation Army barracks at Blackball were recently officially opened by tho Hon..A. R- Guinness, M.P. A telegram was received from the Hon. Jas. Marshall, M.L.C., expressing regret that, owing to illness, he was unable to attend. Major Carmick "and Brigadier Albiston, Provincial Commander of the South Island, delivered addresses, as did also Captain Langdon and the Rev. Mr. Perry, Wellattended ' meetings, were held in the now building last Sunday. .The Army, it may be stated,' is exceedingly popular with the miners ' who thoroughly appreciate .its work. • : Tie formal opening of the Greymouth Golf Club was to have taken place on April 30, but owing to the wet and boisterous weather it had to be postponed to Saturday, May 7. As the Ground Committee have spared neither labour nor expense in preparing tho links, should the. weather prove favourable, a most enjoyable afternoon should be experienced. The Greymouth Sailing Club held its annual ball in the Public Hall. The gathering was very representative and everything passed off most satisfactorily. The Mayor, Mr, T. E. Coates, delivered an excellent speech, after which he presented the prizes won during -the-- 'season, as follow: —Ten-mile deep-sea race, Messrs. Moss and Steele's Alert; three-mile handicap (for trophy presented, by Mr. Knox), Mr. W. J. Holder's Spray; three-mife handicap, (for' Sargocd, Son and Ewon's cup\ Messrs. Moss and Steele's Alert; Mr. G. T. Moss's trophy for the fourmile handicap, Mr. A. ' Bariirop's Glance; Mr. G. Sweetman's trophy, Mossrs. Moss and Steele's Alert; ladies' bracelet, Miss Butcher's Glance; arid the Greymouth Sailing Club's fourmile championship, Mr.'J. Robertson's Irene ,
