IBy TeleeraDh.-SDecial Corrssnondent.l Wanganul, May 6. Tho local schools closed for the usual week's term holiday to-day. The Chamber of Commerce has ar> pointed Messrs. . T. B. 'Williams, IX M'Farlan'e, A. Harris, G. Caiman, and J. T. Hogan, M.P., as a deputation to wait on tho Minister for Railways re long-distance freight rates on railways. The matter of a better train connection at Marton with the Main Trunk express is being attended to by Mr. Hogan. Wangamii vital statistics for April are as follow:—Births, 45 (last April 42); deaths, 22 (8); marriages, 11 (16). The plans for the Gonville-Castlecliffe tramways, as submitted by the engineer (Mr. Creagh), provide' for 5} miles of track linking the town with the heads, part of this length, being a loop line of about a mile. The engineer reports no difficulties affecting construction.
