, SCOTTISH BARQUE NEEDING ASSISTANCE. A STEAMER TAKES OFF TEN MEN. DOUBT AS TO HER LOCALITY. By TeleeraDh—Press associatlon-ConnleM '(Rec. May 6, 11.25 p.m.) Melbourne, May 6. Gabo Island . station reported this afternoon that tho Swedish steamer Tasmanic bad signalled that the iron barque Loch Katrine (1252 tous N gross, built in 1869, bound from Glasgow to Sydney via Melbourne) was dismasted on April 27, and that ten members of her crew aro aboard the Tasmanic. The position of the Loch Katrine was given as 50 degrees south latitude and 151 degrees east longitude, or 360 miles due south of Tasmania. As the Loch Katrine left Melbourne on April 23, it is considered in shipping circles impossible that she could have got into such a position.
Captain Homo, of the Loch Garry (the property of the same owners, the Glasgow Shipping Company), is of opinion that the position should be 40 degrees south, which would place the Loch Katrine just cast of Flinders Island. The agents of the vessel have accepted this surmise as correct.
The Tasmanic will not reach Melbourne till ten o'clock to-morrow night. In the meantime efforts will be made to signal her along the coast with a view to obtaining further details and to assistance being sent.
. The Loch Katrine had 600 tons of her original general cargo aboard. She carried a crew of 22 to 26, so that 12 to, 16 men are so far not accounted for.
