In connection with tho alleged murder and mutilation of a woman named Vandammo in the Rue Botzaris, Paris, some months ago, an ex-convict named Ferdinand has been arrested. He admits that he was acquainted with the woman, who, lw alleges, died accidentally at night. He says he cut up the body, fearing suspicion would fall on him. He will be sent back to penal servitude. ;-.' A'CONFESSION .'EXTORTED. (Rec, May; 6, 9.10 pun.) Paris, May 6. The police searched a. number of houses in Paris, questioning the concierges, and wore finally informed that a quarrel between a man and a woman was heard on the night of the murder in Ferdinand's room.' ',-'A., ,! ,i j ■ Ferdinand was arrested, and denied the charge, but the discovery of a key fitting Vandamme's room enabled, the magistrate to force.a confession from Ferdinand that he strangled Vandamme "during rough horse-play."
